Chateau de Vitre hotel centre ville

The Vitré Chateau

A city full of art and history, Vitré, situated on its rocky outcrop, is dominated by its imposing castle. Former fortress of the Marches de Bretagne, this magnificent castle overlooking the Vilaine river is home to the city's art and history museum. Climb the many steps to marvel at this jewel of medieval times.

Housed in the towers of the chateau you will discover notable collector's items from the history of the 16th to the 20th century: an enamelled altarpiece, monumental sculptures and even religious goldsmith treasures. And don't forget to ask to visit the magical old apothecary.

For fans of French gardens, discover the Château des Rochers-Sévigné in which the Marquise de Sévigné wrote many of her letters.
